"Intermission" – Bald eagles get their name from the Old English "balde," which means white. It takes four to five years for a bald eagle to acquire the white head and tail and yellow beak and eyes of adulthood. With their large size, including a wingspan of over 7 feet, eagles have the appearance of strength. It is no wonder we chose the eagle, a symbol of freedom and strength, to represent our nation.
